On April 11, our Hubbard County Developmental Achievement Center (DAC) family stepped into the spotlight - and into the world of the Hundred Acre Wood - for our performance of Disney’s Winnie the Pooh KIDS at the Armory Arts & Events Center in Park Rapids. The 30-minute musical, based on the beloved stories of A.A. Milne and the 2011 animated film, featured 16 of our talented actors bringing classic characters to life with joy, creativity, and heart.

We were honored when Lakeland PBS came to capture not only the magic on stage but also the story behind the scenes. Their feature included interviews with our actors, who shared what the experience meant to them. Lindsay Gooch, our Narrator, spoke about the excitement of performing alongside friends of all abilities, from first-time actors to those who have been passionate about theater for years. Elisa Boushee, our Art Director and the lovable “Piglet,” talked about the joy of helping each cast member shine on stage while having fun in the process.

Behind the curtain, our set design was a true labor of love. Created entirely by our clients and staff, the colorful backdrops transformed the Armory stage into Rabbit’s house, Owl’s home, and Christopher Robin’s door, no formal blueprints needed, just imagination, teamwork, and a lot of paint. Seeing those spaces come to life, and hearing Lindsay point out how much they looked “just like the storybook,” was a proud moment for all of us.

The live performance was met with a packed house with applause and smiles. For our actors, this wasn’t just a play; it was a chance to express themselves, build confidence, work together, and connect with the community in a meaningful way.

Being featured on Lakeland PBS In Focus allowed us to share that joy beyond the walls of the Armory, reaching viewers across the region. We’re so proud of our cast, our crew, and everyone who supported this production.
